Breast cancer treatment methods. Is there a cure for breast cancer? Can breast cancer be cured without surgery?

“This disease cannot be considered fatal,” says Sergei TYULYANDIN, deputy. Director of the Russian Scientific Research Center named after. N.N.Blokhina

Despite the fact that today many new diagnostic methods have been introduced into the practice of treating breast cancer in women, screenings are carried out, surgical operations, drug and radiation therapy, this problem remains one of the most acute for Russia. Although it is possible to save and prolong the lives of tens of thousands of women, in terms of mortality, breast cancer ranks third (8.1%) overall after respiratory cancer and stomach cancer and first among all malignant tumors in women (17.1%). But it’s good: as a result of important advances in the field of genetics and molecular biology, doctors today have the opportunity to choose treatment tactics for breast cancer.

“This disease cannot be considered fatal,” our expert, deputy director of the Russian Oncology Center, said in an interview with MK. scientific center them. N.N. Blokhin RAMS Sergey Alekseevich TYULYANDIN. “Already today, patients diagnosed with breast cancer are cured of this disease, returning to their families and jobs. Due to the fact that this type of cancer is getting younger, there are many young women who, having been cured, not only give birth to children, but also actively participate in their upbringing. If breast cancer occurs during pregnancy, then we do not terminate it, but treat these patients during pregnancy. And they give birth to healthy children. There would be more government attention to this problem. And we need to change the psychology of Russian women so that they regularly undergo mammography examinations.

By the way, in Russia now 94% of women are cured of this disease if the cancer is detected at an early stage. And in many developed countries, mortality from breast cancer is reduced as a result of early diagnosis and timely treatment. Unfortunately, our women do not consider mammography something mandatory. Although this examination has become more accessible in recent years, especially in large cities. You can test yourself, free of charge, not only in clinics, but also at all kinds of mobile events organized by specialists as part of a social initiative against breast cancer.

Statistics show the exceptional importance of the problem in Russia. Breast cancer remains the leading oncological pathology among the female population: the proportion of patients is 20.7% of all patients in oncology clinics. And this number is growing. According to statistics, in 2012 the absolute number of women diagnosed with breast cancer was 59,037 people, and in 2002 there were 45,857 people. The increase over 10 years is 29.06%. The average annual growth rate of the absolute number of cases reached 2.51%.

In the last decade, the absolute mortality rates from breast cancer have also been high: in 2002, the number of deaths from the disease reached 21,873 people, in 2012 - 22,936 people. The increase in the absolute number of patients was 4.89%.

Malignant breast tumors are the main cause of female mortality in the age categories 30-39, 40-49 and 50-59 years, ranking second and first among all malignant neoplasms(16.8%, 23.7%, 23.5% respectively). The situation is no better in more mature age groups (60-69 years, 70 years and older), where breast cancer ranks first in terms of mortality from malignant tumors (19.1% and 13.4%).

This year, a large multidisciplinary conference was held in Moscow with the international participation of the Society of Oncologists and Chemotherapists. 700 oncologists from around the world took part in it, and 80 reports were read on current topics in this field. One of the priority areas of the conference was a broad discussion National recommendations for tumor treatment.

“The main goal of the professional Society of Oncologists and Chemotherapists is to unite the efforts of specialists in the field of drug therapy of tumors (chemotherapists),” our expert Sergei Alekseevich Tyulyandin comments on the event. - But not only that. In order to reduce morbidity and mortality of the population of Russia, it is also important to unite the efforts of specialists from related fields (oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, specialists in diagnostic services, researchers in the field of studying the biological properties of neoplasms, etc.). This is necessary for the development of drug therapy as essential component prevention and treatment of malignant tumors.

After all, breast cancer, as Picquart Martin, president of the European Cancer Organization, noted at the conference, “is a disease characterized by a very high tendency to early dissemination (spread). This means that already at an early stage of the disease, malignant cells in the mammary gland can go beyond this organ and spread to more distant organs - bones, lungs, liver. If we talk about the evolution in approaches to treating breast cancer over the past 15 years, it can be noted that many women today, provided, of course, that the disease is diagnosed at an early stage, manage to preserve the mammary gland.”

Indeed, in many developed countries and in the United States, mortality from breast cancer has been declining in recent years. For example, in the USA, the five-year survival rate for 2003-2009. amounted to 89.2%; in 2005 - 90.5%. The figure reflects all stages of the disease, including cancer with metastases. And in the 90s, the average five-year survival rate was another 78.4%.

But, as oncologists note, despite the progress achieved, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer is an area that still requires great effort. It is necessary to create interdisciplinary teams of specialists: epidemiologists, biologists, geneticists, morphologists, surgeons, radiologists, chemotherapists, and to more actively introduce new knowledge into practice.

...The World Health Organization drew attention to one of the most common types of cancer in women - breast cancer. And now, all over the world, October is considered the month of the fight against breast cancer. Over the course of a month, meetings are held with women, they are given lectures on the topic women's health, organize free examinations. And this year Moscow will host Women's Health Week. The goal is to raise awareness among girls and women about the risk of breast cancer and existing methods prevention and diagnosis. And, what is even more important, to attract the attention of Russian women to themselves: regularly visit “women’s doctors” and get examined at least once a year. Because when the disease is detected in the early stages, the likelihood of a complete cure increases several times.

PROVEN BY RESEARCH

Women with more moles on their body are more likely to develop breast cancer; Frequent consumption of soy can also speed up the growth of breast cancer cells; The use of birth control pills with a high proportion of estrogen. But... There is no connection between wearing a bra and breast cancer. Regular exercise can help reduce the risk of breast cancer physical exercise. And if the diagnosis of breast cancer has already been made, you need to know that healthy eating increases the percentage of “survival”.

Experts include the following risk factors: heredity, age (usually elderly), environmental problems (presence of radiation), irregular or “smeared” menstruation, menstrual bleeding, large breasts, and belonging to the European race.

Symptoms of breast cancer: a lump that appears somewhere in the body; the skin has changed its color and texture; changed appearance the nipple or a clear or bloody fluid begins to come out of it.

The following will help prevent cancer: quitting smoking and alcohol; normalization of body weight; physical activity; breastfeeding children.

The statistics are inexorable:

Today, 1.3 million women a year are diagnosed with breast cancer;

55% of breast cancers are found in the upper outer part of the breast;

Overall, 28% of women suffer from breast cancer;

25% of women with breast cancer are under 50 years of age;

521,000 people die each year from breast cancer;

27% of women survive advanced breast cancer;

98% of women survive cancer diagnosis at an early stage.

Men are 100 times less likely to get cancer than women.

I cured breast cancer for my mother, and long-standing mastopathy for myself,
ready to turn into a malignant formation - in a very simple way.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer by a doctor whom I
called to the house after seeing my mother’s terrible wound on her chest, from which she was leaking
ichor. Mom was ashamed to show me this wound, and I accidentally
I saw it and I was shocked.

The doctor immediately wrote a referral to the Oncology Center,
but my mother categorically refused to go there. And the next day when I
I told the situation to my older friend, she gave me the recipe,
which made it possible to extend my mother’s life for another three years. Was she
at that time seventy-five.

Since then I have been GIVING everyone THIS RECIPE:
need to buy at the pharmacy Birch tar and a pipette. It costs no more than 50
rubles Every morning you need to start with warming up
boiling milk - half a cup - drop a drop of tar, stir and drink.
On an empty stomach. Eat what you want in about an hour, but it’s better to hold back, don’t
eat fried meat. The next day, add two drops and so on until
fifteen. Then drop in decreasing order - from fifteen to one.
Accordingly, the course is a month. At this time it is useful to prepare juices from five
types of vegetables and fruits, for example: cabbage, carrots, beets, garlic,
apple. Freshly squeezed beets should sit in the refrigerator for two hours.

I drank the course with my mother, cooked for two so that she wouldn’t be offended
to be treated alone. Already on the eleventh drop I felt that the vessels were in
the breasts have softened, cannot be felt, as if stuffed with straw, the breasts themselves
became elastic and the heaviness characteristic of mastopathy disappeared - as if
someone is pressing on the chest. Mom’s wound began to heal as the drops subsided, and
At the end of the course it was almost healed. I also gave her compresses from the infusion
celandine. And an enema of celandine and chamomile. You really need celandine
a little - a couple of dry leaves per half liter. If you drink. And for a compress a little
a little more.

Over the course of a year, my mother and I repeated the course three times every
two months on the third. Mom left for the Other World three years later from an acute illness.
heart failure, because one stupid woman is her wife
I told her my brother, “It’s healed.” You can also die. Why did I take her then?
kicked out of her house.

Doctors stated a massive heart attack, but no
There was no trace of cancer in my mother’s body.
I also know other women who, using this recipe,
They still live and work happily.
I wish the same for you!

Reviews

Wise folk recipes helped many. Just the fact that you selflessly share them with others, thank you. It's a purely personal matter: whether to accept it or not.
May happiness accompany you, and may kindness be in alliance with it.

The other day I found out that a friend of my youth died of breast cancer. Why? All her life she endured and forgave her husband’s infidelities, she always had to be a hypocrite in order to maintain her career, to seek compromises in the most cruel circumstances of life. It seems to me that if lies gradually fill all the niches of fate, cancer develops rapidly and mercilessly. I feel very sorry for her, she was beautiful, gentle and sensitive. Her husband, a sort of macho walker and liar, cynical and arrogant, took advantage of her patience and fidelity. In fact, cancer occurs where it becomes unbearable for a person to endure lies, humiliation, and the bitterness of insults. Kindness is a dangerous criterion, often turning false values inside out... When we begin to fight cancer, we thus begin to fight imaginary kindness.
I am grateful to you for your participation. I am convinced that any self-interest is punishable by any disease...Thank you!

You are right: everything has its limits, including kindness. By doing good deeds, sometimes we violate the given program.
And greed is a punishable factor.

The daily audience of the Proza.ru portal is about 100 thousand visitors, who in total view more than half a million pages according to the traffic counter, which is located to the right of this text. Each column contains two numbers: the number of views and the number of visitors.

The question that a woman asks her doctor is today redirected to the pages of popular magazines and medical websites on the Internet. It says a lot, at length, and almost everything is correct. You should read, find your own criteria, and draw conclusions only for yourself. Psychologists give such tips for familiarizing yourself with popular medical information regarding the treatment of breast cancer. Every person should understand that the development of a cancerous tumor in the mammary gland is a purely individual process that is determined by one’s own life factors. Of course, there are general medical conclusions, but they can also have an individual interpretation for each individual woman.

According to statistics, breast tumors develop in every ninth woman. The statistics are serious enough to ignore. Therefore, the doubts of women who rush to be examined are understandable, and the fears of women who have already been diagnosed with a tumor are understandable. However, doctors cannot give a definite answer to the question “is breast cancer curable?” Even in the case of early diagnosis and a definitely favorable outcome of treatment for breast cancer, specialists make any predictions with some degree of concern. After all, there remains the possibility of relapses, which are difficult to predict, much less predict the further course of the disease.

Can breast cancer be cured?

According to world statistics, breast cancer is considered a completely curable disease. Therefore, when visiting a patient, the doctor confidently says that this is not a fatal diagnosis, one must be treated persistently, undergo regular examinations after treatment, and strive for recovery, because experts today claim that breast cancer is curable.

Psychologists add their weighty word to the opinion of diagnosticians and oncologists: positive thinking and an internal attitude toward a favorable outcome of the disease significantly prolongs life. Thoughts about a happy and painless future exclude the formation of depressive syndrome, because it is known that depression does not lead to good things.
Only in that case can you put a positive one.

It should be remembered that treatment will be prescribed only individually, since the development of a tumor in each specific woman gives its own picture of the disease, associated with:

  • with histology,
  • with the size and location of the tumor,
  • with anatomical growth parameters,
  • with the woman’s age, her state of health,
  • with the presence of metastases,
  • with a genetic picture.

And in each individual case, the doctor draws up his own picture of the disease, according to which forecasts are made and an answer is given to the question of a woman who is definitely interested in whether breast cancer can be cured.

Breast cancer is curable

The only real way to prevent, further successful treatment, and reduce mortality is considered today early diagnosis. For women, this is a mandatory annual examination by a gynecologist. The doctor uses palpation to determine the condition of the mammary glands and, at the slightest suspicion, refers for additional examination.

According to the annual medical examination program, women are asked to undergo an examination such as X-ray mammography, which “sees” the onset of the disease much earlier than the first visible or tangible symptoms appear.
You just need to not neglect the opportunity for examination, and as a conclusion, don’t neglect your own health.

There is an option to remove or remove all cancer cells (tumors). This option is the most reliable, but it is acceptable when everything cancer cells are in one place. Then - by removing part of the organ or all of it - you can achieve 100% recovery. That is why the patient is examined before starting treatment - the lungs, liver, bones, lymph nodes are checked for the spread of the tumor to other organs (metastases).

If no metastases are found, the patient is offered surgery.

Our department specializes in breast cancer surgery:

Medical therapy

Therapeutic chemotherapy and/or hormonal therapy is aimed at slowing tumor growth and its metastases in inoperable cases. Such treatment is aimed at creating conditions for the longest possible coexistence of the patient with the tumor: if it cannot be cured, then it is necessary to prolong life, reduce the likelihood of pain and complications, and create maximum conditions to reduce suffering from the disease.

The goal of non-surgical treatments is to improve outcomes surgical treatment, reduce the likelihood of the disease returning, prolonging the lives of patients, improving their quality of life.

Chemotherapy, hormone therapy, radiation are prescribed

A malignant tumor can grow into the lymphatic and blood vessels mammary glands (embolize them). If this happens, then the tumor cells can “break away” with the blood or lymph flow and “fly away” from primary tumor to a new place. About 10% of these cells “take root” there, from which a tumor then grows. These are metastases.

Before surgery, some examinations are aimed specifically at detecting such lesions (examination of the lungs, liver, bones and lymph nodes). If metastatic foci are not identified, a radical operation is proposed, in the hope that these foci do not actually exist. (However, they may simply not have been visible due to their small size.)

After surgery to remove a tumor, its aggressive properties are assessed in order to identify the likelihood of the presence of metastases that were not identified during the preoperative examination. The likelihood of this is indirectly determined by the degree of damage to the lymph nodes (based on the results of their histological examination). If this probability is assessed as sufficiently high, then the patient is offered different kinds additional treatment- chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy. These treatment methods are aimed at killing (or delaying the development of) possible metastases that have not yet manifested themselves.

How does chemotherapy work?

Chemotherapy drugs are injected into a vein in the form of injections or droppers, or taken orally; hormone therapy is available in the form of tablets and injections. Subsequently, the drugs circulate in the bloodstream, penetrate into the lymph and tissues, disrupting the processes of normal division of active tissues (mainly tumor tissues, as they are the most actively dividing, but also in bone marrow, disrupting hematopoiesis; mucous membrane digestive tract causing specific disorders). Patients are especially concerned about these possible manifestations of chemotherapy toxicity. They usually imagine that they will have all these manifestations of toxicity at once and in a severe degree. This is wrong. Manifestations of toxicity appear gradually, with accumulation of the dose of administered drugs, but may not appear at all. Chemotherapy drugs are administered rhythmically, on certain days, so that their therapeutic effect is maximum. There are many ways to eliminate toxicity. modern drugs. The patient’s task is to inform his doctor immediately when the first signs of any discomfort appear, or if the preventive measures used are ineffective.

How to preserve veins during chemotherapy

To preserve veins and facilitate the administration of chemotherapy drugs during chemotherapy, special implanted ports are used.

How to properly treat breast cancer (BC)

Correct treatment of cancer is only possible with the joint efforts of a surgeon, radiologist and chemotherapist - with an integrated approach. To do this, you need to clearly know about the prevalence of the oncological process.
