Oat milk made from oat flour. Milk can also be oat milk

Milk is different. Cow, goat, sheep or even mare meat has been consumed by humans for many centuries. Recently, its plant substitutes, made from soy or cereals, such as oats, have become increasingly widespread.

Required Products

Oat milk is not milk in the literal sense of the word, but it can be an excellent substitute for the usual product. You can drink it in its pure form, prepare milk porridges and cocktails with it, and even add it to tea or coffee. To prepare 500–550 ml of oat milk, you will need the following products: - 30 g of oat grains; - 6 date fruits; - about 500 ml of water.

You will also need: - a powerful mixer or blender; - fabric for filtering.

Oat milk is well suited for consumption by people who are allergic to cow's milk or those who have consciously given up animal products, such as vegans

Food preparation

Before preparing milk, rinse the oat grains thoroughly with running water at least twice to remove dust and other possible contaminants. Place clean oats in a bowl and fill with water in a ratio of 1:3. In another bowl, soak the dates in the same way. Leave the grains with fruits to soak for 8–10 hours, for example overnight.

Oat milk can also be made from rolled oats. In this case, it will be enough to soak the flakes for 20 minutes. At the same time, you should not squeeze the cake too much so that oat mucus does not get into the milk.

Preparing milk

In the morning, drain the water from the oats and rinse the grains well again under running water. Carefully drain the water from the dates into a measuring glass, add enough clean water to it to obtain a volume of 500 ml.

The cake obtained from oat milk production can be used to make cookies, added to pancake or pancake batter, or simply eaten at breakfast mixed with muesli cereals.

Start blending the soaked oats and dates, as well as the date infusion, with a blender at medium speed, first for about 1 minute, then at maximum power for 30–40 seconds. As a result, you should get a cream-colored liquid with the consistency of liquid cream, basically ready for use.

But to make it as similar to milk as possible, you will have to perform another operation, for which you will need a piece of cloth to strain the resulting thick milk through it. Gauze is not suitable for this purpose, since small pulp will penetrate through it, even folded several times. It is better to take relatively dense material and build a kind of bag out of it. Strain the oat milk, squeeze out the remaining cake. At the end you will get about half a liter of oat milk, which can be used further at your discretion.

- a healing drink that can be easily and simply prepared at home. This plant-based oat milk, as you already understand, is an alternative to animal products (cow's and goat's milk).

Why prepare and consume plant-based milk

  • For medical reasons, if a person is lactose intolerant or allergic to cow's milk, then the animal product can be replaced with plant-based oat milk or rice milk or soy milk or almond milk.
  • if a person consciously, due to personal convictions, has given up animal products (for example, vegans).
  • plant milk can be consumed by people who are fasting (you can also see how to prepare other drinks for the fasting table or.

Oat milk can be consumed in its pure form as a separate drink, you can add it to coffee or tea, and even prepare porridge and cocktails with it.

Oat milk - recipe with photo

In this recipe I will tell you, how to make oat milk from rolled oats and a recipe for making oat milk from oat grains. To do this, we need only two ingredients: oatmeal and water, or oatmeal and water, respectively.

Ingredients: For 50g. oatmeal, 500 ml of water (cold boiled or bottled water), respectively, if you want to prepare oat milk in larger quantities, then increase the amount of initial ingredients using a ratio of 1:10.

If you prepare plant-based oat milk from oat grains, then take 30g. oat grains and 500-550 ml of water.

We remember that the beneficial properties and taste of the drink will largely depend on the raw materials, so for preparing milk we choose Hercules-type oat flakes; instant oat flakes are not suitable. We also look at the expiration date of the cereal. Raw materials with an expiring date are also not suitable, otherwise the drink will have a bitter taste.

Hercules oatmeal recipe

Fill the flakes with water and leave to swell for 20-30 minutes. If you cook from oat grains, then leave for 8-10 hours (the grains should be washed well first to remove all kinds of contaminants). It’s very convenient if you start preparing the drink in the evening, then healthy oat milk will be ready for breakfast.

The oatmeal will absorb some of the water, the rest of the water will become white and cloudy.

Now beat the softened oat mass with a blender at high speed for 1-3 minutes.

Let the resulting mass settle so that the small particles sink to the bottom. Oat milk is ready.

To make milk more pleasant to drink, you need to strain our milk drink through a double layer of gauze.

Do not throw away the oat mixture remaining during straining. Add fresh fruits or berries to the oatmeal and a little honey - and you have a healthy breakfast ready.

Oat grain recipe

  1. Pour washed, clean oat grains with water in a ratio of 1:3. Leave for 10 hours. Then drain the water and rinse the oat grains again under running water.
  2. Pour 500 ml of cold boiled water over the swollen oat grains, beat the mixture in a blender bowl for about 1 minute at medium speed, then about another 1 minute at high speed.
  3. Now the drink should be filtered; gauze is not suitable for straining; a cloth should be used as a filter.

The benefits and harms of oat milk

In Western countries, the problem of intolerance to cow's milk has been solved for a long time. There you can find almond, coconut, hemp and cereal milk drinks on store shelves. Similar products also began to appear in our supermarkets, however, the price for them is very high. But many of them can be made yourself in your own kitchen. Like oat milk, for example. Find out the secrets of its preparation from our article.

People have been drinking milk for thousands of years. Most often on our tables you can find a product of cow “production”, enriched with vitamins and useful elements. But not everyone can drink this drink. There is a category of people who are lactose intolerant - the carbohydrate present in it. What to do in such a situation? After all, milk contains calcium, which any body needs, regardless of age...

There is a way out of this situation. And all thanks to oat grains, rich not only in calcium, but also in a number of other nutrients. From such cereals you can get tasty and healthy milk, which in terms of richness and color is no different from cow's milk. This drink retains all the nutritional value and benefits of oats, since during the preparation process the cereal is not subjected to any heat treatment. It contains everything that our body requires for normal functioning - vitamins, minerals, vegetable protein and oils, lipids and unsaturated fats.

Oat milk is difficult to classify as a low-calorie product - 100 ml of drink accounts for 145 kcal.

This drink is recommended to drink not only for those who cannot tolerate cow's milk, but also for everyone who suffers from pathologies associated with digestion, as well as people with reduced immunity. Drinking a cereal drink has a beneficial effect on the condition of the skin, teeth, nails and hair, helps remove excess fluid from the body, helps the heart function and activates mental activity.

There are no special restrictions on the intake of oat milk. Of course, provided there is no allergy to cereal plants.

Classic oat milk recipe

Oat milk is a truly special product, although its price is several times higher than the cost of a drink of animal origin. Therefore, it is better to prepare milk from oats yourself - it is cheaper and of better quality. Find out how to make oat milk at home right now.

For the recipe, take oatmeal, such as “Hercules”, and plain cooled boiled water. To get milk, you need to take the ingredients in a ratio of 1:10, that is, 100 g of cereal will require a liter of water. From available means you will need a blender and a sieve (you can take gauze).

Cooking method:

  1. Pour the flakes into the dishes, but not those that do not need cooking. Due to steaming, such flakes remain practically without vitamins, which means that the value of milk is reduced to zero.
  2. Fill the flakes with water and wait until they swell. This will take approximately 10 to 12 hours. Therefore, it is better to do this process overnight so that you can enjoy the finished drink in the morning.
  3. Beat the soft flakes with a blender until smooth. During the beating process, the mixture will become almost white. You can say that this is milk, but it is better to filter it so that the drink is pleasant to drink.
  4. To do this, take a sieve (gauze) and filter the resulting composition. The remaining mass on the sieve can also be eaten, for example with fruit, or used as an ingredient for baking.

100 g of cereal yields approximately four glasses of milk, which can be stored in the refrigerator for a week.

Made from whole oats

You can prepare a tasty and healthy drink not only from oatmeal, but also from whole grains. To do this, take oats, wash them well and pour them into any suitable container.

The water must be boiled and cooled (see the ratio of oats and water above). Fill the grains with water and leave for 12 hours.

Now, as in the previous recipe, beat all the ingredients with a blender and strain the finished drink. Milk made from oatmeal or whole oats has equally beneficial properties.

Cooking using cow's milk

If you can easily tolerate cow's milk, you can use it in the preparation of an oat product.

Ingredients:

  • liter of cow's milk;
  • a glass of unpeeled oats;
  • sugar as desired and to taste, starting from one spoon.

Cooking method:

  1. We sort out the oats, wash and dry them.
  2. Pour the cow's milk into a saucepan, put it on the fire, and as soon as the drink boils, pour the grains into it. Reduce the heat and simmer the liquid under a closed lid for two hours.
  3. If you have a multicooker in your house, then feel free to use it to prepare the drink in question. To do this, put all the above ingredients into the bowl, set the “Stew” mode and wait for the sound signal.
  4. After the specified time, strain the milk, while squeezing out the oats properly.

If you like sweet drinks, you can sweeten the resulting composition, but it will bring more benefits without any additives.

Oat milk smoothie

A smoothie is a thick drink made from chopped fruits, berries and vegetables, with the addition of juice, ice cream or milk. Oatmeal is also quite suitable for preparing such a cocktail. You can take any berries or fruits, because each component has its own unique properties.

Ingredients:

  • a glass of grain milk;
  • one banana and one kiwi;
  • if desired, a spoonful of honey.

Cooking method:

  1. Place pieces of fruit in the bowl of a blender or mixer. You can also add honey, but don’t forget that fruits themselves are sweet.
  2. Beat the ingredients until smooth, then add the milk and mix with a regular whisk.
  3. The finished smoothie is best served chilled.

Nut flavored drink

If you add a little nutmeg to oat milk, you get a drink with a pleasant nutty taste. It is also worth noting that nutmeg is a fairly healthy product. Helping the human body to better absorb milk, it also strengthens memory, makes thoughts clear, and sleep sound. But remember that too much nutmeg can dull your mental acuity. Therefore, in a glass of oat milk, just add nutmeg on the tip of a knife and stir.

To prepare such a drink, it is better to take a whole nutmeg and grate it on a fine grater. Its valuable oils evaporate quickly, and therefore the ready-made powder will only give the drink a nutty taste, but no benefits.

With the addition of various grains

Milk can be prepared in a more creative way by using a 5-grain cereal mixture. This product can be found in any store, the main thing is that the flakes are intended for long-term cooking.

Ingredients:

  • 15 spoons of cereal mixture;
  • 700 ml water plus a glass for soaking;
  • if desired, honey, cinnamon and vanilla.

Cooking method:

  1. Pour the flakes into a bowl, fill them with water and wait until they swell.
  2. Then drain the water and send the swollen mass to the mixer. Fill the bowl with clean boiled water and beat for less than a minute.
  3. Pass the resulting mixture through a sieve, return the milk to the mixer and beat again. Then strain and pour into a convenient container.

If desired, you can add honey, cinnamon and vanilla to the drink.

And if you add cocoa, you get delicious chocolate milk.

Oat milk is certainly healthy, but if you are not allergic to cow milk, then you should not refuse it, because each of these products is rich and unique in its own way.

Oat milk is so called because it resembles regular milk in appearance. However, it does not contain milk as such, which is quite good for anyone who is allergic to it. It is not surprising that oat milk, the benefits and harms of which were of interest to many back in Ancient China, is so widespread in the East. Here people often have complete immunity to milk (lactose), so the population tried to expand the number of other products that could be used instead.

And if you want to know what other benefits oat milk has, pay attention to the fact that it improves the digestive process. It is highly recommended for gastritis and constipation. It should be taken into account that the calorie content of oat milk is not very high (276 kcal), so it can be consumed by everyone, but still in small quantities by those who are losing weight.
